Career History

Not many people can boast 30 years in the same profession with the same employer, however in 2006 Suzanne Burdon reached this milestone by celebrating her 30 Year Anniversary at St Thomas’s Riverview Kindergarten.  Respected by her peers, colleagues, and the community, Suzanne is well known within the early childhood sector.  She has an outstanding reputation as a Director/Teacher and has also been the Queensland Independent Education Union (QIEU) representative for many years.  Her outgoing, friendly nature together with her zest for life has made her a favourite with children and parents.

In the 1980s Suzanne witnessed first hand the closure of St Thomas’s kindergarten and preschool in one area and it’s re-opening the following year in a new building in it’s current location.  Since this time the early childhood movement has undergone many changes and through this period St Thomas’s has grown and prospered.

Prior to St Thomas’s Suzanne taught for 2 years in ILEA London, mostly in the East End in a colourful and multi cultural area and before that she spent 3 years teaching at Wavell Heights Kindergarten.

Career History

Jennifer Miller has been working as a Teachers Assistant (Kindergarten Group) at St Thomas’s Riverview Kindergarten for 3 years.  Her friendly, outgoing personality endears her to the children.  She also brings to her role a wealth of knowledge as an experienced mother.

After finishing high school Jennifer worked at the ANZ Bank for 15½ years.  She joined the bank in Townsville and was transferred to Brisbane. She then left the bank to have a family.

Prior to St Thomas’s Jennifer worked at Middle Park Preschool, Jamboree Heights Community Kindergarten and Kiah Occasional Care.

Jennifer has been on the committee of various other kindergartens and preschools where her children attended and is currently the Treasurer of Jamboree Heights Swimming Club.

Achievements

•    Greatest Achievement – being a Mother
•    Jennifer also enjoys swimming and is a qualified instructor. 
      Whilst her swimming achievements are many, she has achieved State            Level and still competes in Open Water swims, most recently the     2006       Noosa Triathlon – Eyeline Water Swim.

Career History

Robin Smith has just joined St Thomas’s Riverview Kindergarten this year.  After finishing school Robin attended Seven Hills Technical College where she followed a career in administrative work at Griffith University, a Constain Construction and Bank of Queensland for over 16 years.  She then completed her Certificate III part time at night at Alexandra Hills TAFE.  Robin has come from a C&K Centre which she has worked at during the past 8 years.  During her time at the centre she has also carried out relief work for other C&K Centres and worked in the State School system as a Preschool Assistant.

Robin enjoys volunteering for the Child Abuse Trust in her spare time and keeping in touch with family and friends.

Career History

Anne Riachi has been associated with St Thomas’s Riverview Kindergarten for approximately 7 years. For the first 3 years as a parent and volunteer (Assistant Treasurer) when her two children were attending the centre and for the past 4 years as the Administration Assistant.

Anne’s friendly and outgoing personality combined with her office skills, efficiency and attention to details has made her an important part of the St Thomas’s family.  She has also gained a great deal of experience in similar roles with other C&K centres.

Prior to getting into the early childhood sector Anne together with her husband ran their own consultancy business. Early on in her career Anne held a variety of positions in the financial services, banking and retail industries. Some of those roles included Sales Manager in Financial Services, Sales Manager in Fashion Retail and 5 years banking experience.
